The Writer: Loh Jichin, Vanesa

Hello there! I am Loh Jichin, or you may know me as Vanesa Loh. A corporate secretary-in-training-soon-to-be-lecturer, budding blogger and writer, window shopping not-so-addict, Kpop and Chinese drama enthusiast.

How did Footslips & Mercies come about?

I’ve always wanted to blog since my teenage years.

My first two blogs were a disaster with immature, directionless posts. When I became old enough to appreciate heartfelt writing, I decided to leave those blogs on the back burner for eternity. However, the desire to create and maintain a successful blog remains.

This time, I sought the Lord’s direction as to how He wants my blog to be. I considered making this blog a comprehensive guide for young adults to navigate the corporate world. As I was planning the structure and content of this blog however, there was a sense of being boxed into the corner.

I didn’t want to limit myself to a single niche. I want to share lots of things about my life. Being an introvert with the tendency to keep silent in group conversations, I often fail to speak about my views and interests. Even when the opportunity arises, I am not one with many words.

Footslips & Mercies will then become the platform for me to do so. But even so, my blog must have a purpose.

So, on 4 December 2022, during church service, God revealed to me the true purpose for Footslips & Mercies:

To share my journey of transitioning from corporate to academia and beyond.

Hence, to know what goes on in the life of Vanesa Loh, come on into Footslips & Mercies.

Why the name “Footslips & Mercies”?

It is taken from my anchor verses in times of insecurity and anxiety:

If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.
In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.

Psalm 94:18-19
